It's my senior of year of high school for anyone who doesn't already know that. And over this weekend, our school hosted senior ball, which if you couldn't guess is for seniors and invite only. It happens at the end of first semester every year. As many have told me over the years, senior ball is way more fun than prom ever is. But, regardless they still recommended me to go to prom. So I did last year, as a right of passage. Then this weekend happened. As many of you can guess, it was definitely better than prom ever was. I went with one of my best friends. I've known him since the summer of '06, back when he was obsessed with the musical Hair Spray and was in Everest Drama. Ironically, during that summer we were both enrolled in the same two classes for summer school- Forensics and On-Stage II. He was the Van Helsing to my Seward. Weird how time flies by right?
Anyways, we went to ball together. We were kind of skeptical at first about how it'd be but after some B52s and Footloose playing later, we started to really have some fun. Half way through the dance, we reunited with some old friends and even met some new ones along the way. All too soon it was time for the big group photo of class 2013 at senior ball, the last dance we'd go to as high schoolers. My friends and I were somewhat towards the back of the group. No one really could see us but I smiled regardless in case I showed up in the picture. As the last picture was about to be taken, a guy I'd just met picked me up so I could be seen in the picture. For a second I felt like I was in an 80s movie where the guy stands outside a girls window with a boombox held over his head asking her to come outside. Pretty cheesy, huh? Either way, that was a pretty much the coolest thing that's ever happened to me.
I really didn't want the night to end. It was just getting good but as the clock chimed 11, the dance ended and everyone began partying ways. But not us. Instead, a night laced with beautiful chocolate men and late night pancake cravings awaited us. No one really slept that night. Anyone who said they did was either lying or too tired to care otherwise. Titanic was the last movie we watched before the sun started rising into the sky. By the time the movie had ended, all attempts to try and get some sleep was either too impractical or you just couldn't because someone kept you awake regardless.
Overall, this weekend went in the books as rather one of the best nights of my life. To some this may seem just like any other weekend hang out but to those who don't get out much well, you get my point. School dances really are a right of passage for growing up. Even though some can be pretty lame, it's the people you're with that really make it worth while.
Until next time!
